Since 1950, we have been teaching children to swim. No two children are alike. Each child progresses at a different pace, has a different personality, and is at a different stage of development and coordination. Nonetheless, what they all have in common is that they can learn to swim. Some will be swimming in 1 day, some 2, 3, 4 or 5, and others might take more. Whatever the case, we teach them with a gentle and encouraging approach and recognize the fact that each child is uniquely different.
Safety
In June 2001, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reported "about 350 children under 5-years old drown in pools each year nationwide, and over half of these incidents occur in June, July and August. Among unintentional injuries, drowning is the second leading cause of death to this age group after motor vehicle incidents. Another 2,600 children are treated in hospital emergency room each year for near-drowning incidents. Most of these cases involve residential swimming pools." This could be your child! Beautiful Fort Lauderdale is surrounded by water. Giving a child an opportunity to learn to swim can save his or her life.
Fun
Swimming can provide endless hours of fun in the pool all year round, especially during the hot summer months. It is a sport that all ages can enjoy whether you are six months old or sixty years old and it's a great family activity. Endless aquatic recreational opportunities abound in the Gold Coast. Learning how to swim well opens the door to a lifetime of safe boating, fishing, scuba, skiing, and more.
Fitness
Unlike many other forms of exercise, like jogging or aerobics, swimming is a non-impact sport. It provides an all-over body workout, also great cardiovascular conditioning. For children, swimming combines fun and exercise. Swimming helps to develop children's coordination and confidence. Group classes gives children an opportunity to learn group dynamics, a lesson used throughout life. For adults, swimming laps cannot only be therapeutic physically but mentally also.
Personal growth
A good self image, that feeling of 'Yes, I can!', is the cornerstone of a healthy personality. Learning to swim and meeting each new challenge along the way builds courage, confidence, and personal discipline not only in the water, but in life as well.
